Up side Down House in Trassenheide

Die Welt Steht Kopf : Up Side Down House [3]
Trassenheide : Usedom : Mecklenburg-Vorpommern : Germany

'Die Welt Steh Koph' means-'the world stands on its head' is the motto of this house. It is another edition of inverted house inside. This is one most seen and visited up side down house in the world. The upside down house, complete with interior furnishings, is the brainchild of Klaudiusz Golos and Sebastian Mikiciuk.  The house is an inspiration of the Szymbark. A blend of Polish-German style.

The very first step through the door of the house leads to confusion. No floor, no wardrobe, but a children's waiting for the guest of the "upside-down house in Trassenheide on Usedom. Here, the entire head furniture - even puppets and fire truck stuck in the play area at the "ceiling ".For the 120-square-foot house is not only the head but also has slight tilt. Dizziness is a common subject to the viewer of this type of house.

From Deutsche Welle, by Rozelia Romanioc
This house is the main attraction of Trassenheide. However, there are many beautiful miniature houses around this interesting and curious building, which are similarly attractive and good subject for photographers. The park has opened for exhibit since September,2008. Almost 20000 tourists enter this house per year.

Up Side Down House in Magalluf

Up Side Down House 2 : The House of Kathmandu
Magalluf, Mallorca, Spain

Well, anyone may get dumbstruck to know that, Kathmandu is located not in Nepal, its in Spain, which is conventionally impossible. But there is a (house of) Kathmandu in Magalluf, Spain, an amusement house in the tourist attractive island of Mallorca. This house is most decorative upside down house of its kind; which mysteriously seems to have fallen right out of the sky and landed on its roof!

Pix Credit : Kathmandu from Panoramio
There is a basic deference with the famous Szymbark house.  This one is 'upside down' only at its outlook appearance, not inside. The House  is properly located between Magalluf and Palma Nova.It is styled to look like an upside down Tibetan-style mansion. The house consists of a number of different rooms showing apparently amusing and amazing artifacts and illusions, mysteries and legends, interactive games, special effects, magical illusions and the robotics.

Fuel From Plane 4 : Caruthers Gas Station

Recently I have found another one, for the Fuel From Plane Series. I haven't find any popular name of this airplane gas station. The gas station is a sister concern of Quick Stop Mini Mart. The airplane is a BT-13 Vultee, so I like to call this station as BT-13 Gas Station(name after the aircraft), though it was famous as Airgas in 50's.

This post is a part of a series about the hanging planes, entire series can be found here.

From Goolge Street View
The owner of this plane sold it to this mart owner. Apparently the plane was not an aircraft  anymore.  So the mart owner did what is the best use for the mart. This eye catching object helps to rise his business, specially the people who use Highway 41 on the way to the coast of Pismo Beach, would give a look at this vertical,'up-side down' airplane placed on the gs pump island.

Up side Down House in Szymbark

Up side Down House in Szymbark
Szymbark : Poland

Poland has an upside down house in Szymbark, which is built in just 114 days in 2006. It is a major tourist attraction these days. The plan for build such an unusual house comes out from Daniel Czapiewski's mind, who is a Polish businessman and philanthropist, built this house as an artistic statement about the Communist Era and current state of the world.

Daniel Czapiewski designed this house according the traditional Polish Style of country side houses.  The interior is designed with Polish paintings, documents and maps about Communist era in Poland,  traditional and contemporary furnitures. After I learn about this house I feel that its a thematic architecture with a massage to mankind :
Be alert ! This could be happed to you too

He Felt that the way we lead our life, would lead us in an upside down state soon. This house is a symbol for the upcoming days for the mankind. The following Youtube video is a clip exhibition of his unique conceptualization, he also expresses his view about this house, here :

Before take a tour in this house, I believe the tourist should practice and play illusion games and puzzles because many tourists complain of mild seasickness and dizziness after just a few minute in this structure. Even the construction workers  were suffered dizziness and confusion during the set up of the interior of this off-track house.

Up side Down Helicopter from Sulzburg

romA Helicopter Upside Down in a Public Space had set beside the horse fountain, North to the Dom of Saint Rupart, in 2006. The Idea of such strange sculpture come out of the mind of Paola Pivi, an Italian (born 1971 at Milano) artist, who works in Anchorage (Alaska). the idea of such odd subject is to twist the people .

According to her opinion -
"a helicopter upside down in a public square, which meant that people driving in the car, riding the bus, or visiting that area of town would bump into a helicopter around the corner. That kind of unexpected encounter was really important to me.Museo Magazine

There is a board next to it explaining the significance of this poorly landed Westland Wessex aircraft, it says:

Usually, Paola Pivi does the impossible, combines the incompatible, and confronts us with the unexpected. The helicopter Wessex 558 - placed upside down - challenges the audience's imagination: All of a sudden it appears impossible that this tinny jumbo could ever fly: an allegory to the fast-rising careerist looking for a solution to the hectic daily routine. Paola Pivi's concern is the miracle of flight, the force, appeal, and fascination of flying objects, but also how helpless and devastated they appear when they fail to serve their obvious purpose"
Recently the rotor blade of this aircraft has been stolen. The police could not stop the alleged thief.News Source

Up Side Down Churches Around the World

These Churches are not a functional or operative Church, but sculptures. These Churches are the brain child of a  master artist , Dennis Oppenheim. This master artist has built the first one in 1997 named it "Device to Route out Evil" .After a brief search in Google, I have found only three of such art around the world, these are :
  1. Device to Route Out Evil, in Calgary , Canada - the most famous one, its a replacement the sculpture from Vancouver, Canada
  2. Up Side Down Church of Lincln, Nebraska, USA is the replica sculpture of a private collector.
  3. Up Side Down Church of Palma, Spain - This road side artwork is a quasi similar to the former one,  and the last
IIt is one of the unique modern art work, a subject of controversy among the christian community, but to the art lover, its an icon to express "an idyllic, contemplative spot on the edge of an energetic development which provides an ever-changing backdrop in the heart of an eclectic and storied community".

According to the Creator-
"In sculpture, economy of gesture is often the mark of a successful work. In Device to Root out Evil, the simple inversion of a building (a church) is enough to radically alter the content of this object, and propel it into the pantheon reserved for high art. The steeple, usually piercing the sky in its lunge toward heaven, is now at ground level, pursuing with vigor, the demons of the deep. The church becomes dynamic by cantilevering this meeting place into mid air, thus projecting all occupants into a spacial no mans land where equilibrium is exchanged for the dynamics of pursuit".

Here are those modern and unique art pieces story:
1. Controversy and Removal from Vancouver

The art piece was placed in Harbour Green Park on Cordova Street as part of the Vancouver Biennale Sculpture Festival in 2005 before the sculpute were removed to Calgary, this was the location where it was primarily installed in Canada. Dennis Oppenheim is start to dismantled it when the Vancouver Park Board commissioners decided to remove this iconic landmark. Later it has been resurrected by the Glenbow Museum, Calgary- the current location.

The news published in Vancouver Sun, June 5 2008

It was controversial for New York City, for Stanford University too, the university didn’t want the controversial sculpture on its ground.Vancouverites then to make complaints about it,after 2 and half years since it was planted in Coal Harbour. Residents of the Coal Harbour neighbourhood complained that the more than six-metre-tall (and wide) statues blocked their scenic view. Other residents said it simply offended their Christian beliefs to see a church turned upside-down. The Park Board agreed.

2. Finding New home in Ramsay, Calgary

After exhibited worldwide by such Institutions as London’s Tate Gallery and The Museum of Modern Art in New York City, and a controversial exit from Vancouver, the sculpture finally find it s permanent home in Calgary. Calgarians not only can handle critical conversation and debate, but welcome it. It is now in exhibition in the Glenbow Museum. Since the museum authority announced to reveal  the sculpture in September, 2008.

Style and Material : It’s a New England Style country church is seen balancing on its steeple, as if it had been lifted by a terrific force and brought to the site as a device or method of rooting out evil forces using Galvanized structural steel, anodized perforated aluminum, transparent red Venetian glass, concrete foundations.
3. Second of its Kind, Lincoln, Nebraska

4.Up Side Down Church of Palma, Spain - the prototype
this one is the only one outside North America, perhaps a native Mallorca artist erects this prototype just outside the ABA Art Contemporani, in Palma. Probable erection date : 2004

This church follows the style of the Calgary, but it is significantly different than those of North America. Wooden frame is used along with steel. The windows are covered by white board from inside. This one is colorful. Corrugated colorful sheet is used instead of colorful transparent Venetian glasses.
